Holiday Capsule Wardrobe

Want to amp up your Holiday Style?

What is a Holiday Capsule Wardrobe? It’s that time of the year we wait eagerly for each year, not necessarily the cold and snow but the part where we get to dress up and celebrate with friends, family and coworkers.

Holiday style is special, it’s always okay to wear something a little more fancy, with a little more sparkle than you normal would. The beauty of investing a bit of coin in a Holiday Capsule Wardrobe (a collection of items pulled from your closet for a specific period of time and used to make outfits) is that it can be worn year after year and can sometimes be incorporated into your every day wardrobe, especially if you’re someone who is always a little bit “extra”.

Here are my style picks for this the perfect Holiday Capsule Wardrobe:

Gold Chain Necklace:

I don’t know about you, but I have been obsessed with gold chain necklaces for the better part of this year. There’s something very “holiday glam” about yellow gold jewelry, it suits many different skin tones and goes with any outfit. Wear it with a green cashmere sweater and white slacks.

Red Heels:

I have to admit, I don’t actually own a pair of red shoes. When I was a teenager watching a fashion program I heard them mention that the only people who should wear red shoes are “whores” and “children” and while this is a horrible and untrue statement, my younger, more impressionable fashion-self took it to heart. Not anymore, red shoes are a bold statement and perfect for the holidays. Wear them with an all black outfit and some beautiful yellow gold jewelry.

A Black Leather Trench:

When I was thinking of a coat to add to this post the one that popped into my mind was a black leather trench, something a little different, goes with everything, warm for those cold nights out and super sleek looking not to mention badass (think Selene from Underworld). Wear it over a red lace party dress or gold lame skirt with black cashmere sweater.

Holiday Statement Earrings:

Statement earrings were very much in the spotlight this year and if you’ve been a bit shy or hesitant to rock this trend, what better time to break out some style confidence than for the holidays? I like yellow gold but any mental will do! Wear it with a red turtleneck sweater or your fav LBD.

A Black Jumsuit

If you want an easy, comfortable, glam and classic look that can be worn in so many different ways for your holiday parties choose a black jumpsuit. They come in a variety of style, with long sleeves, capped sleeve or sleeveless and skinny leg, straight leg or wide leg. The classic black can be easily styled in a variety of different ways so you can wear it more than once, saving you money. Wear it with an animal print blazer such as zebra, snakeskin or leopard and gold booties.

Gold heeled Booties:

I said it before and I’ll say it again, I love gold, especially for holiday dressing. It is a symbol of wealth and luxury and you can’t help but feel powerful and amazing when you wear it. Gold booties are the perfect addition to any holiday look. Wear them with you black jumpsuit or a beautiful white dress.

Zebra Print:

Whether it’s a dress, blazer, pants or boots zebra print is amazing and versatile as a pattern. Black and white is such an easy color combination to work with and looks great with a pop of color. Wear it with a bright red handbag or red shoes.

Gold Bracelet:

Jewelry to an outfit is like icing to a cake; it finishes it, makes it sweeter and makes it look it’s very best. A simple gold bangle or chain bracelet is all you need to elevate a look and make it more luxe. Wear it with a red lace dress or black cashmere sweater and gold pleated skirt.

Red Handbag:

I’m a big fan of keeping my closet color palette fairly neutral but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to add a splash of brightness to my looks. A bold-colored mini handbag is the perfect addition to any black, gold, beige, brown, white, navy or grey look for the holidays and beyond. Wear it with a white cashmere sweater and beige wide leg pants.

Black Cashmere Sweater:

Why do I mention cashmere so often? Because it is unbelievably soft and luxe, yes it is expensive but it is a quality staple that can last a long time in any wardrobe. Want a vegan alternative? Bamboo is a very soft plant alternative. Wear it with a gold skirt or white tuxedo pants.

Gold Skirt:

This is another item that I don’t currently own but that I feel is an essential for the holiday-loving fashionista. The beauty of a gold skirt is that it is technically considered a neutral in that it can be easily paired with other colors. Wear it with a black tee or sweater.
